As 2025 draws to a close, ARAG’s legal advice department’s statistics reveal insights into the legal challenges faced by business and individuals over the course of the year. From employment disputes to property concerns, the data tells a clear story: legal challenges are complex, and advice is essential to navigate them with confidence.

Aaliyah Rashid, ARAG Law goes in-depth on 2025 trends.

14,870 calls from employers seeking legal guidance

Commercial Employment:
Employment law continues to dominate the department’s list with 14,870 calls this year from employers seeking legal guidance. This ongoing trend highlights the complexity of managing people in today’s evolving regulatory environment.

The most common topics include:
• Disciplinary proceedings
• Termination and resignation
• Sickness absence management
• Redundancy procedures

These aren’t just technical questions – they involve balancing legal compliance with fairness and sensitivity. Employers increasingly look for practical, actionable advice on how to handle grievances during disciplinary action, manage dismissals appropriately, and navigate redundancy with sensitivity.

10,450 calls regarding Commercial Landlord & Tenant law

Landlord & Tenant:
The second most popular area was Commercial Landlord & Tenant law, generating 10,450 calls. Landlords most often sought advice on:

• Non-fault possessions – ensuring full compliance with Section 21 requirements
• Rental arrears – weighing eviction against practical recovery strategies

With the Renters Right’s Act 2025 receiving Royal Assent on the 27th October 2025, it is no surprise that landlords are eager to understand their obligations and options before taking action.

7,694 calls seeking personal property guidance

Personal Policyholders: Everyday Issues with Big Impacts
For individuals, property concerns led the way in 2025 with 7,694 calls, driven largely by damage and nuisance disputes. These cases often stem from neighbour tensions and typically involve issues such as encroachment, interference with property rights, and urgent steps to prevent breaches before they spiral into costly legal battles.

7,404 calls for personal employment advice

Personal employment advice followed closely behind, with 7,404 calls. Grievances and discrimination dominated these queries, reflecting persistent challenges in workplace relations. Many callers sought help resolving disputes, often unaware of their protections under the Equality Act 2010. These conversations reinforce the vital role of the legal advice line in providing clarity and confidence when it matters most.

5,551 calls regarding consumer contract disputes

Consumer Advice: Contractual Challenges
Consumer concerns ranked fifth, with 5,551 calls this year, largely related to service contracts for home renovation projects. Given the financial stakes, it’s no surprise that contractual disputes cause significant stress for policyholders.

What Do These Trends Tell Us?

Legislation sparks demand: New laws mean new questions. With the Employment Rights Bill and the Renters Rights’ Act 2025 coming into play, there is no doubt that high call volumes are set to continue well into 2026.
Workplace fairness is critical: Grievances and discrimination remain significant concerns, underscoring the importance of Equality Act protections.
Property and consumer disputes persist: Everyday legal issues continue to disrupt lives, reinforcing the importance of accessible advice.

ARAG’s legal advice line isn’t just about answering questions, it is about helping policyholders navigate uncertainty with confidence. As we move into 2026, these insights will guide how the department continues to support policyholders in an evolving legal landscape.

To quickly summarise 2025 -
legislation sparks demand, workplace fairness is critical, and property and consumer disputes persist.
